Pastor’s Pen
By Linda Smith • Jul 10th, 2012 • Category: Pastor's DeskRemember the story of David and Goliath? It is about the impossible becoming a reality. Here was young David, just a shepherd boy (heavy on the boy part). His mode of defense was a sling shot and his goal was to destroy the person casting hateful remarks about God and the people of God.
David goes to bring food and supplies to his brothers who were in the army. While there he hears Goliath and his insults. This made the youthful David angry to hear such from anyone. It began in him Holy Discontent with the situation. Even the fact that Goliath was a giant of a man did not deter David’s desire to correct the situation.
David made up his mind that he was going to fight Goliath to defend the honor of his people and his God. Even King Saul was not convinced David could kill Goliath but he allowed David to go ahead and fight. The one thing David had on his side was God. God never intended for Goliath to depart the victor; instead, he was waiting for somebody to step up and say, “What you care about, God, stirs my spirit too. And however you want to use me to help solve the problem that we both see … I’m in!”
As difficult as it may be at time, you simply must follow suit. Run toward the giants that threaten to impede your holy discontent progress! Get close to your holy discontent because when you feed rather than flee it, God will birth new visions in you to become part of the solution. Trust me: this stuff won’t happen on its own. If you want to be a force for good, then like David, you have got to choose to take action in the area of passion God has placed inside your heart.
Join with me in staying close to your passion and God so we together can make a difference for Christ in this world.
May God richly bless you.
John
